Meet the Team

Brian Chin: President

Brian was a varsity swimmer for four years in high school in Memphis, TN. He swam in the 2011 Tennessee State High School Championships. He started training for triathlons since coming to WashU. He is majoring in physics and has conducted research and authored papers in mechanical circulation, including extracorporeal life support, cardiopulmonary bypass, and ventricular assist devices.

Elizabeth Halper: Vice President and Race Director

Caitlin Braun: Treasurer and Sponsorship Chair

John Fratinardo: Secretary and Running Coach

Ethan Goldstein: Alumni Consultant and Bike Coach

Ethan played tennis all throughout high school but didn't get into swimming, biking or running until he came to college. While having a love for the water but no profound swimming ability, Ethan made his way to try lap swimming during his freshmen year and immediately fell in love. Next came the running in the sweltering St. Louis summer heat (if you can make it through that then you can run in anything). The only thing left was the bike, so Ethan went a little over the top and participated in a cross-country ride from Baltimore to San Francisco through an organization called the 4K for Cancer. Since that time Ethan has run an assortment of Half-Marathons, Marathons, Olympic and Sprint Triathlons and hopes to do both a Half and Full Ironman in the coming years.

Joe McDonald: Alumni Consultant

After two years of cross country, Joe started competing in triathlons in his junior year of high school. After immediately realizing his weak swimming fitness, he joined his high school’s swim team for his senior year. Since then, has completed Ironman Louisville (2013), Steelhead Half-Ironman two times (2009 & 2011), and will finish his 2nd Rock n’ Roll Marathon later this October. Joe has been an active member of the WashU Triathlon Club since his freshman year and had the opportunity to race in the Collegiate National Championship in Tuscaloosa, AL his sophomore year.

Asher Trangle: Alumni Consultant and Swim Coach

I'm a sophomore studying political science and economics from Minneapolis, MN. I have been swimming competitively since elementary school, and I swam on the high school swim team from 7th to 12th grade. During that time, my main event was the 500 Free and my fastest time was about 5:05. I was an all-conference winner my senior year of high school too. I never really did too much biking or running during those days. However, my mom has done a bunch of triathlon and a few Ironman triathlons which is why I wanted to join the triathlon club at WashU. The first triathlon that I ever did was in Baraboo, Wisconsin when I was in 11th grade. Since then, I also did the sprint triathlon at WashU last spring.
